The yakisugi technique is perfect...
Yakisugi (焼 杉) is a traditional Japanese method of preserving wood.
Yaki means to heat with fire and sugi is cypress. In the West it is referred to as burnt wood veneer and also known as shou sugi ban (焼 杉 板) which uses the same kanji characters but incorrect pronunciation.
The prohibition character means "table".
By slightly carbonizing the surface of the wood without burning the entire piece, the wood becomes impervious to carbonization and is therefore more resistant.
It also protects against insects, as well as making the wood fireproof.
After carving the wood I start raging on the surface with the fire and I don't stop until it begins to flake.
Now the protosculture is completely charred and its deep black color is accompanied by silver sparkles.
It's time for the magic to begin ...
With the left hand the block and with the right using a brush I begin to remove the charred layer entering each crevice and going through each vein.
Each time it is a new emotion ... the material reveals itself with its unique cracks and veins.
As fire corrodes wood by digging it, the passage of time and the challenges of life shape each of us in a unique and unrepeatable way.
How we deal with each event we will find it imprinted in our mind and in our personality.
What we are is what we have been through and we need to be aware of that.
By doing so we can make our uniqueness the strengths with which to face each new experience with serenity.
The yakisugi is the right technique, in my opinion to represent all this.
La tecnica yakisugi è perfetta...
Yakisugi (焼杉) è un metodo tradizionale giapponese di conservazione del legno.
Yaki significa riscaldare con il fuoco e sugi è cipresso .
In occidente viene indicato come rivestimento in legno bruciato e noto anche come shou sugi ban (焼杉板) che utilizza gli stessicaratteri kanji ma una pronuncia errata . Il carattere ban significa " tavola ".
Carbonizzando leggermente la superficie del legno senza bruciare l'intero pezzo, il legno diventa impermeabile attraverso la carbonizzazione ed è quindi più resistente. Inoltre protegge dagli insetti, oltre a rendere il legno ignifugo.
Dopo aver scolpito il legno inizio a infierire sulla superficie con il fuoco e non mi fermo finchè essa inizia a squamarsi.
Ora la protoscultura è completamente carbonizzata e il suo colore nero profondo è accompagnato da scintillii argentei.
E’ adesso che inizia la magia…
Con la mano sinistra la blocco e con la destra utilizzando una spazzola inizio a rimuovere lo strato carbonizzato entrando in ogni anfratto e percorrendo ogni vena.
Ogni volta è un’emozione nuova… il materiale si rivela con le sue crepe e venature uniche.
Come il fuoco corrode il legno scavandolo così lo scorrere del tempo e le sfide della vita plasmano ognuno di noi in maniera unica ed irripetibile.
Come affrontiamo ogni evento lo troveremo impresso nella nostra mente e nella nostra personalità.
Ciò che siamo è ciò che abbiam passato e ne dobbiamo essere consapevoli .
Così facendo possiamo rendere queste nostre unicità, i punti di forza con cui potremo affrontare con serenità ogni nuova esperienza.
Lo yakisugi è la tecnica giusta, a mio parere per rappresentare tutto ciò.
